There are two other special awards which will be chosen by the sponsors and Ashton Town Team. The website – – will be launched on September 7th and you will be able to nominate your favourite businesses throughout the month. Winners will be announced in October with presentations made to the businesses individually within the town centre.

The nominations are being judged by a prestigious group of well known individuals in Tameside. A well known member of the judging team is Pauline Town who has worked exceptionally hard supporting the homeless and other charity projects within the borough. Luke Mirfin, from Tameside Markets, is the third judge who deals with marketing for the Tameside Markets team. We are delighted to welcome Jackie Moores, Principal of Tameside College, as our final judge who, along with the others, will help select this year’s winners from a shortlist of those with most nominations.  Chairing the judging team will be Jan Lord from Guide Bridge MOT & Service who have won a number of awards through the years including recognition from Pride of Tameside.  Jan said: “I’m extremely honoured to be asked to be chairing the Ashton Independent Business Awards… alongside the other judges. There are so many worthy businesses in the town so I know our job isn’t going to be an easy one this year. Having been a winner in many awards myself over the years I know what it means to a small business to be recognised for all their hard work.”

Joining Ashton Town Team in sponsoring the event Paul Westwell, partner at Bromleys Solicitors, said: “We are proud to be the main sponsor of the Ashton Independent Business Awards and wish everybody the best of luck.” Bromley’s itself has received its own fair share of awards in recent years including awards in Pride of Tameside in the last three years.

Councillor Bill Fairfoull, Deputy Leader of Tameside Council said: “Over the past 8 years Ashton Town Team has worked hard to support the small businesses in our town centre. We are delighted to have the opportunity, with the support of Bromleys Solicitors, to recognise some of these valuable independent businesses.”

Samantha Robinson from Ladysmith Shopping Centre, who launched the Amazing Ashton Awards last year, added ” “It has been an extremely challenging year for retail to say the least and with the fight against coronavirus still not over these awards are exactly what is needed in Ashton to help boost morale amongst the business community and shine a spotlight on all of the fantastic small, successful and innovative businesses we have in the town.

“Entries are still open for this year’s Amazing Ashton Awards and the category with the most nominations so far is the Local Business /Entrepreneur Award, making up 40% of the total entries, which proves there is a real appetite for local community business awards in Ashton and I am confident the Town Team’s new awards initiative will be a great success.”

The website – – goes live on September 7th when you can nominate your favourite independent Ashton business.
