CARING FOR FOSTERERS

Tameside foster carers were invited to a special celebration paying tribute to their hard work supporting young people in the borough.

The event recognised the work of foster carers in Tameside. Carers who have achieved 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 25+ years of service will be awarded a certificate and a gift, with all carers receiving recognition for their work.

This celebration event was held at Dukinfield Town Hall on 23 and 24 September and hosted by Tameside Civic Mayor, Cllr Janet Cooper, and attended by Sharman Birtles JP DL – Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester (on Thursday 23).

Tameside Council fostering service attended alongside Children’s service leaders and councillors, including Cllr Bill Fairfoull.

There was a welcome drink, speeches by the Mayor and Cllr Fairfoull, followed by an awards presentation. Goodie bags were also given to carers receiving an award.

After the awards a buffet lunch was served and some time for foster carers to catch up.

Cllr Bill Fairfoull, Tameside Council Deputy Leader and executive member for Children and Families, said: “We’re lucky to have so many dedicated foster carers supporting young people in our borough and events like this are vital for recognising all the work they do. Being adopted myself, I fully understand the hard work carers do to provide loving, stable homes for our young people so they can get the best possible start in life.”
